Before following any troubleshooting steps please make sure you have the driver installed from the disk.  If you have not been able to install from the disk, you can download the driver http://www.goaiptek.com/drivers/driverfiles/pkdv4.zip  Please refer to your manual for any directions or specifications related to the installation or functions of the camera. You can also find troubleshooting tips for additional help in the back of the manualstarting at page 71 .

Q: What are the items that should be included in my package?

A: Your package should include the following:

  • Pocket DV4500 camera

  • One CD (includes supplementary programs and camera driver)

  • USB cable

  • AV cable

  • Installation guide

  • Tripod  / Stand

  • Wrist Strap

  • Headset

  • Camera Bag

Q: My Pocket DV4500 was missing some of the accessories when I purchased it, how can I replace them?

A: If you are missing any items, we suggest you return it to the purchase location for a complete package. If you are unable to exchange your camera please contact Technical Support for assistance: tech@aiptek.com or (949) 585-9600.  

Q: What is the resolution of my Pocket DV4500 and how many pictures can I take?

A: The following are the Specifications for the  Pocket DV4500

Q: What are my computer system requirements to run the Pocket DV4500?

The requirements are:

  • Microsoft Windows 98 SE/ME/2000/XP

  • PIII (or equivalent)

  • Direct X 8.0 or above

  • 128 MB of RAM (256 MB rec.)

  • Video card with 4 MB of RAM for a minimum of 16-bit (high color) display

  • 4x speed CD-ROM 

  • An available USB port


Q: I do not have a USB port on my computer, is there an adapter?

A: The camera requires direct power from the USB port; the camera will not work with any adapters.  Your best option is to install a USB PCI card.  This will provide you with 2 USB ports.  We recommend that you check with your computer manufacturer for compatibility. You can also contact a local computer repair store and have them help you. 

Q: Will the Pocket DV4500 work with Windows 95?

A: No, the driver is only compatible with Windows 98 SE/ME/2000/XP.

Q: Is this camera compatible with Windows NT?

A: No. The Pocket DV4500  requires a USB power connection and Windows NT does not support USB.

Q: Is this driver compatible with Macintosh computers?

A: When using a Macintosh computer, the Pocket DV4500 will allow you to upload images only. You do not need to install anything, simply connect the camera. As for the software that comes with the camera, it is not compatible with Macintosh.

Q: Do I have to keep the LCD open to use the camera?

A: No, you do not need to keep the LCD open at all times to use your camera. Simply close the LCD while your camera is turned on and the LED will turn into an amber color, that means your camera is still turned on.

Q: Can I turn off the noises and beeps this camera makes?

A: Yes, you can turn off all noises on this camera. Simply turn the dial to the Settings mode and select the Beep option, then select off. That will turn off all beeps and noises the camera makes.

Q: If I take the batteries out of the camera, will I lose everything I have on my camera?

A: No, you will not lose any information, whether you have an SD card or not.

Q: Is the zooming capability only for the digital still images?

A: No, you can use the zooming capability for video recording as well.

Q: If I delete any images or videos from the Removable Disk folder, will they still be on my camera?

A: No. they will not be on your camera. Once you delete something directly from the Removable Disk Folder it deletes it from the camera as well.

Q: Will this camera work with my existing imaging (scanners/other cameras) devices?

A: If you are unable to use the Pocket DV4500 or your existing camera or scanner properly, uninstall any devices, and then reinstall the Pocket DV4500 first. We recommend that our camera be installed first to avoid any driver conflicts. For troubleshooting steps, refer to the following instructions according to operating system.

Follow these steps to refer to the Device Manager for Windows 98 SE and Windows ME:

  • Go to your start button

  • Choose settings

  • Select control panel

  • Open up system

  • Go to the device manager’s tab

  • If the camera is installed correctly, you should have an icon called imaging device.  Also, when you click the plus sign it should list your camera.


Follow these steps to refer to the Device Manager for Windows 2000/XP:

  • Go to your start button

  • Choose settings

  • Select control panel

  • Open up system (if system is not there, open Performance and Maintenance, then system)

  • Go to the hardware tab

  • Click on device manager

  • If the camera is installed correctly, you should have an icon called imaging.  Also, when you click the plus sign it should list your camera.

Follow these steps to refer to Multimedia properties for Windows 98 SE and ME:

  • Go to your start button

  • Choose settings

  • Select control panel

  • Open multimedia, for Windows ME it would be sounds and multimedia  

  • Go to the devices tab

  • Scroll down to video capture devices

  • Click the plus sign.  

  • This will give a listing of all of the active video capture devices.

Follow these steps to refer to Multimedia properties for Windows 2000:

  • Go to your start button

  • Choose settings

  • Select control panel

  • Choose sounds and multimedia

  • Go to the hardware tab

  • Double click legacy video capture devices

  • Go to the properties tab. 

  • Here it will give a listing of all of the active video capture devices.

Follow these steps to refer to Multimedia properties for Windows XP:

  • Access your Device Manager

  • Locate Sounds, video, and game controllers and click on the plus sign

  • Double click legacy video capture devices

  • Go to the properties tab. 

  • Here it will give a listing of all of the active video capture devices.

Q: How do I download images and video files to my computer?

A: Please follow the steps below:

  • Set the Camera Mode Dial to the Playback mode

  • Connect the camera to your computer

  • Open up My Computer

  • Locate and Open Removable Disk

  • Locate the DCIM folder and open it

  • Locate the 100Media folder and open it

There you should see all pictures or videos that you may have stored on your camera. In order to save these files to your computer, please follow the steps below:

  • Select the image/video file

  • Right click once on the file and select copy

  • Open the folder that you would like to save your image/video to

  • Right click once on a blank area in that folder and select paste

Note: If you want to select to transfer all files from the camera to your computer , a quick way would be to: select one file, then hold down Ctrl and "A" at the same time and that will select all files in that folder. Right click on any one of those files and select copy, then proceed with the steps provided above. That will allow you to move all files from your camera, instead of one at a time.

Q: I can't seem to get my web cam to work, what am I doing wrong?

A: Please follow the steps below to make sure you are following the correct procedure:

  • Before connecting your camera make sure that the dial is set to the web cam option

  • Connect your camera to the computer

  • Open up the program web cam program you are trying to use (ex. Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger...)

Note: Please make sure that you do not have more than one web cam/Live View program opened at the same time. This includes the DV4500 Driver, please do not have this program opened while trying to use any kind of messenger program.

Q: When I connect my camera to the computer or try to get a live view, I get an error that says "Video Device is not attached", what do I do to fix this?

A: If you have a TV/Tuner card and do not want to disable it, then please try using another program like Netmeeting  for Windows. That program will allow you to use the camera as a camcorder. Otherwise try the steps provided below: 

Follow these steps for Windows 98 SE and ME:

  • Go into your Control Panel and into Multimedia. 

  • Click on the Devices tab. 

  • Find Video Capture Devices and expand it by clicking the "+" next to it.

  • You should see all video capture devices there.

  • Look at the properties of each device. For all devices other than our camera, choose "Do not use this video capture device" and place a check in the "Do not map through this device" box.

  • Then click OK. You may need to restart your PC.

  • Once the PC has restarted (if necessary), try using the camera again. If the devices were properly disabled, you should be working fine.  

Follow these steps for Windows 2000:

  • Open your Control Panel.

  • Double click on Sounds and Multimedia.

  • Click on the hardware tab and select legacy video capture devices.

  • Click on the properties button and then click on the properties tab.

  • You should see the available capture devices.

  • Look at the properties of each device. For all devices other than our camera, choose "Do not use this video capture device" and place a check in the "Do not map through this device" box.

  • Then click OK. You may need to restart your PC.

  • Once the PC has restarted (if necessary), try using the camera again. If the devices were properly disabled, your camera should be working fine. 

Follow these steps for Windows XP:

  • Open up your Device Manager (please refer to the steps given earlier)

  • Click on the plus sign next to Sounds, video and game controllers

  • Locate legacy video capture devices or video capture devices

  • then click on the properties tab.

  • You should see the available capture devices.

  • Look at the properties of each device. For all devices other than our camera, choose "Do not use this video capture device" and place a check in the "Do not map through this device" box.

  • Then click OK. You may need to restart your PC.

  • Once the PC has restarted (if necessary), try using the camera again. If the devices were properly disabled, your camera should be working fine. 

Q: When I record my video from the Pocket DV4500 Driver I do not get any sound.  

A: The DV4500 Driver does not have a sound recording feature.  However, if you use a program such as Video Live Mail, or any program that supports a microphone device, it should work.

Q: My picture quality is grainy.

A: Generally, this happens when there is insufficient lighting or battery life is low.  First, try turning the flash on and if that does not resolve the problem then replace the batteries.  

Q: Why are my pictures coming out blurry?

A: If your pictures are coming out blurry, it may be because you did not adjust the focus lens. If not, try cleaning the lens. Line up the line on the focus lens with the lines of the preferred option.

  • For extreme close ups - Line up to the flower

  • For landscape/people shots - Line up to mountain

Q: Why does the Pocket DV4500 driver close when I try to get a Live View?

A: Please make sure you meet all requirements for your system. If you have a TV/Tuner card and do not want to disable it, then please try using another program like Netmeeting or Video Live Mail. Those programs will allow you to use the camera as a camcorder. Otherwise try the steps provided below:

  • Access your Device Manager

  • Locate any question marks or exclamation marks

  • Double click on it and select to reinstall the driver, select it.

  • Go through the installation and select what is recommended

If your computer cannot locate the drivers for your camera or asks you to connect to the internet, click on back and follow with the steps below:

  • Choose to specify the location and click next

  • Select to include this location and click on the browse button beneath it

  • Locate my computer and click on it

  • Locate your C:\ drive and click on it

  • Locate Windows (if it is not listed locate WINNT) and click on it

  • Locate Setup and select it

  • Click on OK, then Next

  • That should locate the driver for your camera

Q: Why does it say "Cannot Connect Camera", when I try to use my camera with the Pocket DV4500 driver?

A: Please follow the same steps as indicated in the question above.

Q: How do I transfer MP3's from my computer to my camera?

A: Make sure that the camera is not switched to either the live view mode or on settings mode. Connect your camera and follow the steps below:

  • Open the folder that has the MP3's which you would like to transfer

  • Right click on the MP3 and select copy

  • Open up My Computer

  • Locate the Removable Disk and open it

  • There will be two folders, open the folder titled MP3

  • Right click in any blank space in that folder and select paste

Once you follow those steps, if you disconnect your camera, you should see and be able to playback any MP3's you chose to transfer.

Note: If you want to select to transfer all MP3's from one folder, a quick way would be to: select one file, then hold down Ctrl and "A" at the same time and that will select all files in that folder. Right click on any one of those files and select copy, then proceed with the steps provided above. That will allow you to move all files to your camera, instead of one at a time.

Q: My Pocket DV4500 is not working on my TV, what do I do?

A: Please make sure that the AV cable is connected correctly into your TV. Also, make sure that you select a video channel for your TV.  There should be a TV/Video button on your remote control, if you press it, it will show you the channels you can try. Once you select it, your TV should show what the LCD would be displaying and the LCD should go blank.

Q: Why can’t I send email directly from the Pocket DV4500 manager?

A: Some Internet providers’ email format, such as AOL, is incompatible with the Pocket DV4500 manager mail feature. You will need to send your pictures as attachments. Every e-mail provider has the option to do so. Follow the steps below:

  • Open up an e-mail

  • Click on the attachment button

  • Locate your pictures and click insert.

Q: Why can't I get the email function from Video Live Mail to work?

A: There are several reasons why Video Live Mail will not work. You will need to send your pictures as attachments. Every e-mail provider has that option. 

Q: How can I tell if my batteries are low?

A: When your camera is turned on, you will see a battery symbol on the LCD display. That indicates your battery power.  

Q: How long will my batteries last?

A: The battery life of the Pocket DV4500 depends on how often you are using it. Battery Life on Pocket DV4500:

  • about 30 mins, when recording constantly

  • about 1 hr., when constantly taking pictures
